Maternal Education and Child Malnutrition: Evidence from selected West African countries

Published in SN Social Sciences, 2023

This paper investigates the effects of mother’s education on child malnutrition in selected West African countries; Ghana, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast. As the early years of every individual’s life are the most essential stage of their life, one of the most important factors that pave the way for their survival and growth during childhood is their levels of nutrition.

Tax compliance in Ghana: Does Corruption and Trust in the Government matter?

Published in SN Social Sciences, 2023

Government revenue serves as a financial foundation of economic growth. However, governments are unable to mobilize adequate tax revenue because of tax non-compliance. Previous research indicates that both economic and non-economic factors influence the tax payment propensity. Our study focuses on non-economic factors because it offers a better explanation of tax non-compliance than the pure economic factors.

Cash Transfer and Multidimensional Child Poverty: Evidence from Ghana

Published in International Journal of Social Economics, 2022

The study aims to examine the change in deprivation rate among children aged 0–17 years between 2010 and 2012, as well as the impact of cash transfer on multidimensional child poverty in Ghana using the global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI). We used the difference-in-difference estimation technique to assess the impact of the cash transfer program on the MPI of pre-school (0–5 years) and school-aged (5–17 years) children, and compared the results with that of Propensity Score Matching.

Government Policies and Firm Performance in the COVID-19 Pandemic Era: A Sectoral Analysis

Published in SN Business Economics, 2021

Although there has been a series of ongoing government policies to mitigate the economic effect of the pandemic, we do not know to what extent these policies have been effective. Using two-period panel data (before and during the pandemic) on 419 Italian firms, this study examines the impact of government policies on firms.

Cash Transfer and the Labor Supply of Vulnerable Households and Individuals: Does Household Indebtedness Matter? A Triple DiD Analysis

Published in SSRN, 2024

Cash transfers have been an effective mechanism in alleviating poverty, improving consumption, food security and health of the program beneficiaries. However, there are spillover effects of these programs such as its bidirectional effect on labor supply due to varied channels. One of the factors scholars overlook in the literature is household indebtedness. We examine how debt moderates the impact of LEAP 1000 program on labor supply of the program recipients.

Impact of Alcohol Use on Academic Performance Among College Students: The Case of Acute and Chronic Drinking

Published in SSRN, 2024

Prior research suggests that college drinking adversely affects education. While several studies have examined the effect of alcohol on the quantity of education using measures such as years of schooling completed, high-school graduation, or dropping out of college, this paper investigates the effect of alcohol use on the quality of education among college students. I examined the acute and chronic effects of alcohol use on college student performance (using GPA as a measure of performance).
